Motivating Community Action

A one-day course for those who want to spark action in the community - or any specific group

Are you planning an action project on environmental, health, road safety, Natural Resource Management or other issues?

Are you working on a challenging issue?

Do you want people to do things they've never done before?

This intensive course will give you the keys to design projects that really motivate people to act.

You'll get:

  • understanding about the motivators of individual action and change;

  • a specific, achievable 'theory of change' for your next project;

  • insights into the social nature of human action;

  • ideas to make your action goals 'sticky', so people will sustain them

  • a real life framework for delivering your next project.

Motivating Action is a stripped down, highly focused, version of Les's popular two-day Enabling Change workshop - the standard in training on program design for change. It aims to give participants a solid understanding on the basis of human motivation and share key tools that build successful action projects. The training allows participants to workshop their own projects, so they walk away with customised solutions to the challenges they face.

The course is based on some powerful theories of change: The Diffusion of Innovations, Self-Determination Theory, and Bandura's idea of Self-Efficacy. Together these provide tremendous insight into what it takes to spark action.

You'll also use Enabling Change collaborative tools to plan real life projects brought by the participants. You'll identify the motivators, create a unique theory of change, reinvent the action, and create a great invitation.

You'll walk away with a transformed understanding of human action and the confidence to proceed on your project.
